We made our annual trip to the Ohio State Fair on Monday--Grandma and Grandpa joined us this year. The kids had fun getting free stuff from all the booths with Grandpa. They had lots of fun riding rides (I think we are ready for a trip to Kings Island!) and they enjoyed the Natural Resources area. This year, they were able to shoot a real BB gun and bow and they played a sporting clay simulator game. I guess Rylie was a little Annie Oakley with the BB gun and Isaac hit the red part of the target with the bow & arrow! They also learned about washing clothes with a washboard at the pioneer house. The last few trips we have made to Ft. Wayne, the kids have played pioneer family with their cousins. Seeing this house just brought it to life for them.
Each year they love to see the HUGE bull and boar. The bull was 2700 pounds and the boar, whose name was Grizzly, was 1805 pounds. The kids are looking forward to being able to take their own animals to the fair. As you can see, Rylie wasn't fond of the smell in the pig barn.

There were a few army exhibits so we had to get a picture with the army vehicle!

Another highlight each year is checking out the entries for the Ugliest Cake Contest. There is always some sort of Michigan Wolverine cake that undoubtedly places!! This year, there was a cake with locust shells on it--just like the ones the kids were playing with the other day. They thought that was cool! At the petting zoo, Rylie liked the hairy highlander but wouldn't get too close! I tried to get her to kiss it! Isaac thought the yak had a "loose" horn. He had to make sure it wasn't too loose.
