In mid-November, Matt's grandpa passed away. It had been a long battle with cancer. The funeral services concluded right before Thanksgiving so his grandma wanted some time alone. It had been several months with a steady flow of visitors in and out of the house. Grandma started having chest pains the first week of December and after several tests a heart cath and an attempted by-pass surgery, the doctors found a tear in her aorta. The doctors did not have much hope for her recovery (2 hours to 2 days); however, it has been over a week and she has moved out of ICU onto the rehab unit and is there to receive therapies to get her ready to go home. She is walking to the end of the hall, giving herself a bath, getting dressed....Her recovery has been miraculous, the hand of God is evident! It really is just a waiting game, but God has blessed the family with more time with her. It is really nice to have the grandma we know and love for just a while longer--she definitely hasn't lost her spunk!
Rylie and Grandma (Summer 2008)
Isaac and Grandpa (Summer 2008)
We enjoyed Thanksgiving with family. Sherry, Dale and the kids came down Wednesday so we were able to spend a few days with them. The kids all played wonderfully together and I actually didn't come in last when we played our annual "Oh, Shister" card game--thanks to Neil! We are so thankful for family!
This is a picture of all the grandkids (Rylie and Isaac are great-grandkids).

We made gingerbread houses with friends last weekend to kick off our Christmas celebration! No hot glue was used this year!! The dads, both engineers, have concocted an idea they think will make the assembly even more successful next year! The kids love to display their masterpieces. Isaac has eaten candy off of his, Rylie won't let anyone touch hers. I think we will dig into Isaac's gingerbread this week!!!
We finally got our live tree on Friday and that motivated me to finish decorating the house. Isaac loves to have the tree lights on and the Christmas village lit. He is so fun at Christmas even though he has told 2 kids (one at school and one at the sitter's) that Santa doesn't exist! They sat on Santa's lap Friday night at a restaurant and Rylie told him she wanted an iPod and Isaac told Santa that he wanted a brother for Christmas!!
They were both in the Christmas musical at Church this past weekend. Isaac woke up Friday night with the stomach flu but it was short lived and he was able to perform Saturday afternoon AND Sunday night. An answer to prayer!! They both did great, along with all the other kids. I may try to get some video on this week if I can figure it out.
