That boy! That's really all there is to say! Here is the latest story...
Yesterday, I put on a Handwriting Without Tears in-service with another teacher after school, so my mom was home to get the kids off the bus. I decided to stay in town after the in-service b/c I would have had to turn right around and head back out for Bible study. The kids got off the bus, did their homework, & ate dinner. Then, they all headed outside. Dad was out front mowing and Rylie & Mom were out front playing. Isaac was standing at the edge of their yard watching a farmer work in the field behind their house. The corn was already off. It looked like they were just "mowing" the stalks down a little more.
Rylie said she came around the side of the house and saw Isaac climbing up into the tractor with a man she didn't know. The kids know the farmer who owns the fields around us and she knew it wasn't him. In her state of panic and concern, she ran to mom and told her that Isaac got into a tractor with a stranger. By that time, the tractor was headed away from the house so mom and Rylie stood and waited. Isaac and the farmer made it to the edge of the field and then turned back towards mom's house. As they approached the edge of the field, the farmer saw mom and let Isaac out. Mom recognized the man as one who often helps in the fields, but we don't know him. By the look on his face, mom thinks he realized that maybe he should have had Isaac get permission first.
According to Isaac, that was the best experience of his lifetime! The farmer actually stood up and let Isaac have the seat to himself and do all the steering! Of course he thought that was awesome! But, when he got off, I think he was also nervous that he was busted! He said that he was just standing at the edge of the field and the farmer pulled up and waved him over. He said he thought about it for a minute and the farmer waved again. Then, he proceeded with this logic. "Well, we know Mr. Clark and I know that it is his tractor. So, this must be one of his relatives and it must be okay." So up into the big red tractor he climbed! For the experience of a lifetime! I guess the farmer did ask who Isaac was and who he was there with before driving off.
When I got home, Matt told me the story. Then I heard Isaac calling down to me from his bedroom. I went up and he said, "Did Dad tell you?" I said, "Yes, he did. What do you have say about it?" He said, "It was FUN!" I asked, "Looking back, how would you have handled it differently?" He said, "I would have asked for permission." Hopefully, lesson learned. I didn't go any farther with the discussion b/c I knew mom, dad and Matt already had.
